"Bryn Mawr 100" Gears Up for September 10th Celebration

Within the village of Bryn Mawr, 19 institutions are over 100 years old and still going strong.  A coalition of these eight churches, three educational institutions, three businesses, a hospital and four other distinctive places of interest has formed with a mission of “Honoring the Past; Embracing our Future.”

On September 10th from 9 a.m.—2 p.m., Bryn Mawr will welcome visitors to enjoy old-time games, bus tours, concerts and a brief ceremony to honor the “Bryn Mawr 100” institutions at the Gazebo on Bryn Mawr Avenue behind Ludington Library.  Patrons who normally visit the Bryn Mawr Farmers Market can also stroll down Lancaster Avenue to take advantage of sidewalk sales.

“This partnership among the Bryn Mawr 100 institutions, the Bryn Mawr Business District and Civic Association as well as Lower Merion Township, the Historical Society and Lower Merion Conservancy begins a wonderful new tradition in our village,” noted Commissioner Scott Zelov, Ward 10 Commissioner and member of the Bryn Mawr 100 Committee.  “As additional locations reach their 100-year mark, we will gladly welcome them as part of our Bryn Mawr 100 group.”

Currently, Bryn Mawr 100 consists of:

A map noting all nineteen locations will be published by media partner Main Line Media News in early September.  Organizations, businesses or individuals who wish to publicly acknowledge the Bryn Mawr 100 can do so in a special advertising section by contacting Cheryl Wert at (610) 642-4300, ext. 224.

“From opening our doors to those who have never visited to sharing our history with new audiences and even partnering with Bryn Mawr’s downtown businesses to raise awareness and build excitement  - we are inspired by the possibilities,” remarked Pooh Gephart, Bryn Mawr 100 Committee Chair. Details are forthcoming, but mark your calendar for September 10th. More information is available by calling (610) 525-2700, ext. 296.
